My dad's 92nd birthday!

So I was lucky to be able to go to my dad's 92nd birthday celebration! He is doing great for 92 - still drives : 0, is a little slower physically and he needs hearing aids desperately but refuses to get them. He decided he didn't like the oak trees in the back of his house, so had them taken out, with no plans for replacing them with anything.  I got to see the 3 new babies in the family - Eleanor , Kensley & Tom - so cute! Pam had us up for a delicious dinner on Sunday & then cake & ice cream for dad's birthday!

So I don't know if you know anything about this flag that my dad got while he was in Japan after WWII while serving with the marines.  Anyway we were always curious what all the writing was and Pam had a friend in her ward that was from Japan and traveled there often. Here are the responses from her friend about how neat this flag is, and what a miracle it was to find out about it.

The family that knew dad in Japan gave him this medal

I love seeing the sunsets from the mountain.

This is a yellow watermelon. It tastes about the same as a red one.

This is what is left of the lake behind our house.  They are dredging it and making it deeper.  The mud in the middle they are removing. It was empty until the last big rainstorm.
